In Panama, customers don't fill out forms — they message you on WhatsApp. Here's how to set it up properly, connect it to your website, and when automation is worth it.
If you've lived here a while, you already know: nobody fills out a contact form. They message you on WhatsApp. Customers ask about products, prices, availability and appointments there — and if you're slow to reply, they message the next business. For an expat-run business, understanding this one fact changes how your whole website should work.
The free WhatsApp Business app (different from the personal one) gives you a business profile with your hours, catalog, address and website; quick replies to canned questions; labels to organize chats (new lead, paid, follow-up); and an away message so nobody is left on read at 9pm. It's free and takes 15 minutes to set up. If you run any kind of business here, this is step one.
💡 TD Solutions tip: The single highest-impact automation is a good away message + a greeting message. A customer who messages at midnight and gets "Thanks! We reply 8am–6pm, meanwhile here's our catalog" is a customer you keep instead of lose.
Every page of your site should have a WhatsApp button that opens a chat with your number — ideally pre-filled with a message like "Hi, I'm interested in…". That turns an anonymous visitor into a named conversation in one tap. It's the difference between a website that looks nice and a website that brings you customers.
We build this into every site as standard — it's part of our web design service.
Once you're handling more messages than you can answer by hand, automation helps: a chatbot that answers the same 5 questions 24/7, routes serious buyers to a human, and captures the lead's details automatically. Connected to your systems, it can confirm orders, send reminders and follow up — the follow-up is where most sales are actually won or lost.
That's the automation side of what we do. We wrote about the engine behind it in our Spanish guide on WhatsApp chatbots for businesses.
1) Install WhatsApp Business (free, today). 2) Put a WhatsApp button on your website. 3) Set up greeting + away messages. 4) Only then, if volume justifies it, add a chatbot or automation. Most businesses in Panama get 80% of the benefit from the first three, which cost nothing but a bit of setup.
